Napoleone in Piemonte

[This book is in Italian]

The war between the French Republic and the Kingdom of Sardinia, which broke out in 1792 and continued until the armistice of Cherasco in 1796, was the most important event for the fate of Piedmont in the eighteenth century. The final act of this conflict allowed the young general Napoleon Bonaparte, in command of an army for the first time, to pave the way for a successful military career. The defeat, the annexation of Piedmont to France and the subsequent restoration soon diminished the memories of these distant events. In the first decades of the nineteenth century the extinction of the direct branch of the House of Savoy and the advent of Carlo Alberto opened the way to the Risorgimento: the adversaries were the Austrians, the allies of yesteryear. Thus the glorious events of the Alpine War ended up being definitively removed. With this publication the events of the period 1792-1796 and the first part of the second Campaign of Italy return to the forefront, with an eye cast as to the role played by the Savoy army, which found itself defending the heart of the state again, as had happened in 1705-1706.
