Napoleons Medaillen

This sumptuous catalogue (in German) of the 146 medals produced during Napoleon's periods in power show how the Consul/Emperor used medals as a means of glorifying his epic rise. No ruler before him ever produced so many medals, and this book shows how important this art was to Napoleon.
The books includes:
– a facsimile of a complete period list of all the medals produced between 1796-1815.
– as an appendix are fifteen full plates showing the medals in their collection box.
– an article by Jean-Marie Darnis, Archivist at the Monnaie de Paris, entitled, 'Napoleon's Medals: Art and Propaganda' and two articles each by the authors Lisa and Joachim Zeitz.

The book is completed by notes, biographies and images of the artists involved, a bibliography and list of names.

Lisa Zeitz is an art historian working at the University of Munich.
MD Joachim Zeitz is an orthopaedic surgeon and medal specialist.
