This volume (first published in 1913, but here without date or place of publication and appearing amongst other books published in 2003) lists over 1200 Royal Naval and Royal Marine Officers who served at Trafalgar on 21 October, 1805, together with the service histories of some 850 of them. The services were compiled from a range of sources including the Naval General Service Medal Roll placed at the compiler's disposal by Lieutenant Colonel D.N. Hailes RN. The introduction to the book analyses the process of compilation and the difficulties attendant thereto. The work itself includes Officers borne in inferior rates at Trafalgar but who subsequently attained commissioned rank. The history of each of the ships engaged is included which, as the author justly points out, have 'a personality of their own'. Arranged alphabetically by ship the book has a fully comprehensive index allowing quick access to details on each officer.
