From the publishers:
The Battle of Waterloo, a constant source of interest for scholars, enthusiasts and general readers alike for nearly 200 years, has been extensively covered in written works. However, most of these books are simply regurgitating other accounts of the battle, which in turn are a rehash of another work, and so it is rare to find new work based on genuine primary sources – until now.

Gareth Glover has, after painstaking and meticulous research, published a new collection of primary sources from the time of the Waterloo campaign – most of which have never been seen before. Letters from the front line to loved ones (from common soldiers as well as officers), journals kept by artillerymen detailing the shelling of the enemy, even civilian accounts – all are contained in this absorbing and fascinating book. Perhaps the most interesting are the line drawings of Cavalié Mercer, supposed to accompany his journal but never published.

The first in a series of six books containing French, German, Dutch and Belgian sources regarding the Waterloo campaign, this series will be an invaluable asset to any student of the Napoleonic wars, or anyone with an interest in the social history behind the armies of the era.
