A Personal History is a new work by the famous British historian on his heroic subject that includes a biography of the young Wellesley and a deeply knowledgeable and readable account of Wellington's habits. The small but important details of his life and how he conducted it give shape to this mythic figure, and in particular, his political persona. At the same time, Wellington's military achievements serve as a backdrop and explanation for the confidence his peers lent him, yet never come to the foreground in Hibbert's account. Nevertheless, this work is an exceptional way to venture into the 18th and 19th centuries.
