Wellington's defeat of Napoleon on 18 June 1815 was decisive and brought to an end 22 years of almost continuous conflict between Britain and France. It restored a balance of power on the Continent, creating the conditions that allowed Britain to expand its empire and to prosper throughout the 19th century.

The Royal Green Jackets (Rifles) Museum in Winchester has a fine collection of artefacts, medals and paintings covering the period 1797-1815. It also has a 24.5 square metre diorama of the battlefield with 30,000 model soldiers and horses.

The Museum's Battle of Waterloo Bicentenary Exhibition will last from 25 March to 30 September 2015. It will include loaned items from public and private collections.
