200 YEARS AGO, AUSTERLITZ, NAPOLEON'S PERFECT BATTLE...

Soldiers! I am pleased with you. On the day of Austerlitz, you lived up to all my expectations of your bravery and boldness; you have decked your eagles with a glory that shall never die. In less than four hours, an army of one hundred thousand men, commanded by the emperors of Russia and Austria, has either been cut to pieces or dispersed. [...] Soldiers, when everything required for the happiness and prosperity of our fatherland has been accomplished, I shall bring you back to France; there you will be the object of my tenderest attentions. My people will welcome you back with delight, and all you will have to say is «I was at the Battle of Austerlitz», for them to reply, «There goes a brave man».

Two hundred years later, this evocation of glory still rings in the ears.
As part of the commemoration of the Battle of Austerlitz, Napoleon's "perfect" victory, we bring you our special dossier to enjoy: Bonne lecture, as we say in French, which is to say, Enjoy your read!

      AUSTERLITZ SPECIAL DOSSIER THIS WEEK
December's book of the month:
-- GOETZ Robert, 1805: Austerlitz: Napoleon and the Destruction of the Third Coalition

Press clippings:

- On 2 December at Austerlitz, Napoléon will be... American!
According to AFP wire, for the bicentenary commemoration and re-enactment of the Battle of Austerlitz, planned for 3 December on the Pratzen Heights, the Emperor Napoleon I will be played by a Mark Schneider, an American from Williamsburg (Virginia), and a professional living history performed, who works at an open air historical museum. A Napoleon enthusiast, he has already 'played' Napoleon dozens of times, for events ranging from the anniversary of the Louisiana Purchase and to television history programmes.
